The 6th annual Glitter and Gold Gala held at the Sky Hangar in Pitt Meadows was a tremendous success. It was an elegant, fun and inspiring evening and thanks to everyone’s generosity we raised over 55,000! The success of this event is due to our compassionate donors, volunteers, and attendees. We are grateful to the generous community that continues to support us and our mission to offer support and assistance to families bereaved by loss.

The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity is proud to announce that we have awarded 27 graduating students with a $500 bursary to pursue their post secondary endeavours. CRCCS is proud to have such tremendous support from the community to be able to offer services like the bursary program.

Dan Reaveley, representing CRCCS, is the winning recipient of one of Shaw’s 50 Outstanding Canadians for his work to support children and youth! As we are proud to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, we are also honoured to be selected for the support we offer children and their families bereaved by loss. Old Hollywood comes to life at the 5th annual Gala held at the Sky Hangar in Pitt Meadows. Decked out with vintage cars, photographers, and a red carpet entrance, guests were entertained with a live and silent auction and entertainment from the 40’s and 50’s. It was a sold out event with over 300 guests and raised almost $50,000 to support the programs the charity offers.

9 bursaries were awarded to graduating students who have lost a parent and/or sibling. These students are all pursuing post secondary school and have received financial support from the charity. These students are all across the lower mainland.

Several children and their families received camp funding to attend summer camps, fall retreats, or day camp programs.

The 4th annual Gala was the most successful event to date. It was a sold-out event and raised $30,000 to support families who have lost a loved one.

CRCCS recognized the need for graduating students to pursue post-secondary school without financial barriers. The bursary program was created, and 3 graduating students in Delta and Coquitlam (schools that Charlene attended) received a bursary towards their post-secondary education.

Children who have lost a parent and/or a sibling were fully sponsored to attend summer camps.

In October, CRCCS opened the Counselling and Resource Centre. It provides counselling for children and their loved ones, support groups, access to resources within the community and a lending library of books for children and parents.

The charity hosted its 3rd annual Gala. Generous supporters raised money to support counseling and other programs for children and their families who have lost a loved one.

A commemorative bench was purchased in memory of Charlene Reaveley at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody to recognize her love for outdoors, a moment to relax, and for time with family at her favourite park.

Three Grade 10 students from Dr. Charles Best Secondary School participated in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Program and their team presented the most compelling presentation and was awarded a $5000 grant which was directed to the charity. With this financial contribution, the counselling and resource centre was partially funded and furnished.

Coquitlam Firefighters and 2 young philanthropists raised over $1000 at a lemonade stand towards supporting families who have lost a loved one.

Over 1200 toys were collected by members of several communities and wrapped by over 50 volunteers at the 4th annual Toy Drive. These toys were delivered to children to bring smiles back where they belong.

The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity Society was awarded, on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Diamond Jubilee Medal for dedicated service to peers, to community and to Canada. The contributions to this nation are recognized as most commendable and deserving praise and admiration.

The charity recognized the need to support children who have experienced a loss of a loved one by directly giving fun back to children. Funding summer camps was a way to help bring smiles back to children’s faces. CRCCS introduces this program and children were fully sponsored to attend a summer camp.

With the generous support from the community, over 1000 toys were collected, wrapped, and delivered to children who have lost a loved one and to children in need at the 3rd annual Toy Drive.

A wall was adopted in support of the ‘Project Somos Children’s Village’ in Guatemala in loving memory of Charlene Reaveley. Funds were raised to adopt this wall and has become the ‘forever home and community’ for abandoned and orphaned children of Guatemala. Charlene’s passion was to adopt a child and to aid third world countries. Her legacy will now continue in this children’s village.

Charlene’s 32nd birthday was celebrated by bringing members of the community together and hosting the 1st annual Gala. Money was raised to assist families who have lost a loved one.

The 2nd annual Toy Drive was held to support families who have lost a loved one and other organizations within the community. Over 130 families benefited by the generous donations of the community.

Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity Society was founded by Charlene’s husband, Dan Reaveley. He suffered the loss of his wife, Charlene, in a tragic hit-and-run accident on February 19th 2011. Dan was left to pick up the pieces of their shattered dreams, now becoming the sole financial provider and caregiver to their 4 children. During his profound loss, Dan had a vision to create a charity to meet the needs of bereaved children and their families. The charity is a non-profit organization offering support and assistance to families with children experiencing the loss of a loved one.

In July 2011, CRCCS was legally recognized and granted charitable status as an organization. It is recognized for the purpose of benefiting the community by providing counselling to children and parents who have lost a loved one.

Charlene Reaveley’s story was published in Maclean’s Magazine which is a Canadian weekly news magazine. The article captured readers by describing the type of person Charlene was and her final act of kindness that took her life.

The 1st annual Toy Drive was created because Charlene loved every minute of the holiday season by watching her children open their gifts from Santa and she shared in that excitement. Charlene would often donate gifts to the less fortunate children in her community. With this toy drive, children were blessed with gifts by carrying on Charlene’s dream.
