A loss experience, such as a death, can be classified as a crisis that propels us into the grief process.  The grief experience involves the entire person.  It is emotional, physical and spiritual.

How does grief counselling work?

Dealing with grief is something that every person must face at some point in their life. It refers to the emotional progression person experiences when mourning the death of someone they cared about.  Counselling is a common treatment strategy to help people effectively cope with grief and can help identify their negative and debilitating thought structures and actively replace them with more positive, constructive ones.

How much of your resources goes towards your programs?

100% of all money raised goes towards our programs.  Every board of director is a volunteer position.

How are you funded?

All donations come from the passionate community members and businesses. CRCCS receive no government funding or grants.

Can I receive a tax receipt for a donation and can I specify a program to direct it to?

Accepted Answer

Any donation over $20 is eligible for a tax receipt, upon request.  The charity offers 5 programs and can be directed to an area of choice or can be left to the discretion of the board of directors based on the needs of each program.

Absolutely. Individuals may not be aware of CRCCS and the connection to many resources may greatly benefit families.  If you know of an individual or family that can potentially benefit from our services then please let them know about CRCCS.

How and why was the charity created?

The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity Society (CRCCS) was created in Spring 2011 by Charlene’s husband Dan Reaveley. After suffering the loss of his wife in a tragic hit-and-run accident by a drunk driver, he was left to pick up the pieces of their shattered dreams, becoming the sole financial provider and caregiver to their four children. Char’s passion for children and desire for a closer community was his inspiration. Charlene would do anything to make a child smile or just to see a little sparkle in their eye – this was the spirit of Charlene that motivated Dan to reach out and support families experiencing a loss.  The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity was created to support and assist grieving children and their families.  What was needed in Dan’s experience was counselling without financial burden, access to books and resources within the community and a connection to families who were also experiencing a loss in their lives. CRCCS was created to keep Charlene’s memory alive and to help other children and their families going through similar circumstances, providing them with much-needed counseling and support.

The Charlene Reaveley Children’s Charity is a non-profit organization offering support and assistance to families with children experiencing the loss of a loved one.

Who is Charlene Reaveley?

“Char”, as she was often called by her family, friends and all those that loved and respected her, lived her life day by day.  Charlene was bright, vibrant, and always so full of life.  Her infectious smile truly had the power to change any situation for the better.  She was a genuinely caring and loving person who always went out of her way to help out others in need.  Charlene was a very active person.  In school, she excelled in many sports – specifically ringette, softball and dance.  Because of her love of fitness, she branched out and became a personal trainer.   After losing an incredible 42 pounds, it was no doubt she would be an inspiration to her clients and friends alike.  She then dedicated her life to helping others exude confidence and achieve their fitness goals as well.  Charlene was married to Dan and together they had 4 children.  Kaeden, Rebecca, Alicia and Tristan were the centre of Charlene’s life.  A mother’s love goes far beyond words, for her it was a lifelong commitment to loving, encouraging, and helping each of her children live a happy, successful, and healthy life.  Char’s passion for children and desire for a closer community was Dan’s inspiration behind creating a charity in legacy of Charlene. Charlene would do anything to make a child smile or just to see a little sparkle in their eye – this was the spirit of Char that motivated Dan to reach out and support families experiencing a loss.

In February 2011, Charlene Reaveley—an inspiring young mother from Coquitlam—was tragically taken when she was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident by a drunk driver.
